Originality in business cards printing is a rare thing these days. Even most custom business cards that most businessmen and businesswomen use today are usually just drawn from business card templates. If you really want to have your own unique design, then you need to have a good originality checklist that should help you see if your business card is truly unique. For your convenience, found below is my own originality checklist for business cards printing. See if the five items below can also work for you to preserve your originality.

1. Did you use a template? – First ask yourself, did you use a template? Some people actually may think they didn’t use a business card template, but on second thought, the layout that they used or the shape and color of the business card is from another template. This means that you may think that the content and even some custom design elements in your business card are unique, but in actuality they are just from templates. To prevent this from happening, try to avoid using wizards and reading tutorials for your business card design. Just hire a layout designer yourself and ask him or her to make a truly unique business card. This is the easiest way to prevent you from producing unoriginal business card.

2. Are you using common colors? - Also ask yourself: Are you using common colors? For a lot of people white or something light is the default color of business cards. Most choose it because it is easy to match and it is the cheapest color to print. However, this move usually makes your business cards very boring and common. You have to prevent yourself from producing such common business cards by changing your business card color. Even just a simple switch from black and white to primary colors can do the trick in making your business cards more original. Just chose your favorite one so that it suits your tastes.

3. Is it all in text? – Next, try to see if your business cards just only have text as content. Everyone usually thinks that business cards should only have text. It is a business card after all and it should look very respectable, corporate and formal for making business contacts. Well, this may have been the norm in the past, but in our modern world business cards can be more creative than that. You have to break the boring cycle of designs and go beyond printing only text in your business cards. Add in images, symbols and even holograms to make your business cards very interesting and memorable. By doing these things, you can produce a quite original work for your business cards.

4. Are you using standard card stock? – Finally, ask yourself if you used standard card printing stock. Using standard stock may be cheap, but by using it, your business cards will definitely just look like the common business cards out there. You usually need to print in special custom paper or card stock that is thicker and more durable to really come out ahead of the pack. So always try to make sure that you refuse to print in common stock and go for better ones. The extra investment for business card printing will be worth it, I promise.

Great! Just go through these questions for every business card printing that you go through. Within moments you should judge correctly if your business cards are unique enough, or if you are just rehashing some common business card templates.
