PBX stands for Private Branch eXchange. PBX telephone systems have evolved further with technical advancements to become automatic and be called PABX (Private Automatic Branch eXchange) and PMBX (Private Manual Branch eXchange). This term has become very prominent in the telecommunication industry especially with reference to business telephones.
The main advantages of PBX Telephone Systems are:
1. PBX Telephone Systems act as a connecting link between the public switched telephone network and the private business organization. It requires only one trunk line for its operations. If the PBX Telephone System is modular and flexible it can adjust to the growing nature of the organization. The number of extension lines can be increased.
2. It is connected to fax machines, other telephones and modems too. This facilitates branching at the business end where multiple utilities are possible.
3. PBX Telephone System selects the outgoing lines automatically. The only thing that one has to do is dial and escape code prior to selecting the outside number. In some of the latest phone systems there is no need of the escape code too.
4. This system saves a lot of money on internal phone calls.
5. The dialer can be asked to wait and hold the line if the Telephone System has the feature of call waiting. In ordinary situation if you are busy on one call the dialer may be just left clueless and stuck between nowhere. When the PBX Telephone System is installed the dialer at least knows he has dialed the proper number.
6. With the PBX Telephone System at your service the call of the dialer can be forwarded to an appropriate person who can deal with his/ her query or if the person to whom the call is intended is busy the call can be forwarder to another person.
7. Nowadays the PBX Telephone System are facilitated with speaker phones to address more than one recipient simultaneously. In earlier days the speaker would have to call a meeting to address everyone at the same time.
8. With the help of speed dial that can be incorporated in the PBX Telephone System, one need not remember the frequently dialed number and moreover these numbers can be connected by just pressing one or two buttons.
9. Now that the internet technology can be combined with the PBX Telephone System there are a range of facilities such as Voice over Internet Protocol also available.
10. With the latest PBX Telephone System employees outside the company premises who even work from home can be contacted without using the external number.
