| ' America 's Next Top Model' Comes Under Fire for Racy Photo Shoot |

As a modeling competition, CW’s America’s Next Top Model naturally pays close attention to bodies of women in various set-ups. Now on its tenth cycle, the show’s challenges have ranged from conservative to raunchy in almost every theme and condition you can think of, from the seven deadly sins to music genres, from animal-inspired photo shoots to skimpy pillow fights.
Its March 26 episode, however, apparently went too far, as far as the Parents Television Council is concerned. The PTC is a non-profit organization that monitors and promotes “family-oriented” television programming especially during prime time. It lodged indecency complaints against America’s Next Top Model for showing a nude model posing for photographs, with only a minor pixilation covering her privates.
According to the PTC, America’s Next Top Model had “crossed the legal threshold for broadcast decency” for airing the controversial scene during the so-called “family hour” of 8 p.m. They attacked CW for “pushing the envelope to establish a new nudity standard for television.” In connection, the television watchdog is encouraging its members to file a formal complaint against the show with the Federal Communications Commission.
The scene, which lasted for more than one minute, featured Anya on a one-on-one photo shoot with judge, Nigel Barker. It was her prize for winning a posing contest judged by America’s Next Top Model creator and host Tyra Banks herself.
Some viewers, however, argue that the whole thing was done artistically and in good taste. Moreover, they cite that the show does say TV-14, hence not intended to be shown to kids below 14 in the first place. On the other hand, there are also viewers who concede that the particular shoot is slightly different from previous nude photo shoots since it was done one-on-one and the model was on a bed, making it quite suggestive and, as the PTC said, “undoubtedly intended to titillate.”
